Would the Nagato count? It was flagship of the Combined Fleet.

Grant,

Even though the Nagato remained in home waters during the attack it was the location of Admiral Yamamoto and as you said the Flagship of the Combined Fleet, so yes it is a viable candidate for this build.

Randall,

While 70-80% is probably a little too mature I am open to discussion of already started models, especially large scale. I don't want anyone to miss out on this opprtunity just because the project is too large to complete within a year.

I might be in. I did custom Pearl Harbor defender decals for a 1/72 P-36 a while back and was even going to paint a pilot figure in pajamas.

Sal,

According to this reference the PBY-5s were at Ford Island but not the 5A.

Not sure what the differences are between the two versions.

http://www.navalaviationfoundation.org/archive/sfl/sflshow.php?id=29

Can the kit be built as a PBY-5?

Dave

The 5A has retractable landing gear, the 5 does not. The 5A kit could not be built as a 5 without a fair bit of work.

Hey all,

After looking through the stash I realized that the Fujimi IJN Shokaku kit I have is based on the 1941 outfit, thought it was 1o44. So with that, my subject for this Campaign will be the IJN Aircraft Carrier Shokaku. The lead carrier of the 5th Carrier Division.

Looking forward to the start of this campaign

Hey all,

So after doing some more research I realized the IJN Akigumo is wrongly identified on the Order of Battle for Pearl Harbor. The IJN Akigumo is a Kagero Class Destroyer, not a Yugumo Class Destroyer. So with that in mind I finally have an excuse to build a multi ship diorama. So I'm building the Fujimi IJN Shokaku and the Tamiya IJN Kagero as the IJN Akiguma. The IJN Akiguma was the escort DD for Carrier Division 5.

Ok, so that's my update. Less than two weeks to begin.

Sounds like a solid plan there Dave! A multi-ship approach means more fun! Scanning through some of the pictures you sent me and pouring over a few other references myself right now! Looking forward to gluing some parts together!

75 years ago today, elements of the Imperial Japanese Combined Fleet weighed anchor and departed Hitokappu Bay in the Kurile Islands in northern Japan. The force consisted of 24 vessels supporting the six aircraft carriers of Kido Butai. Destination - Pearl Harbor.

The countdown has begun.

Hi everyone,

Below is another attempt for a campaign ribbon. I made some mods based on previous feedback.

Here is how it will look once awarded.

Thoughts??

Hi David,
I personally like this one much more.

How about one more option....center the 75 and remove the date?

What do you think?

Cheers,
Joe

Hi David,

I really like the change...each of the elements are to the point... Japan vs USA and the 75th anniversary.

It really does not need more.

but I don't have the last word...let us see what the others have to say.

Cheers,
Joe

I like the ribbon. The only thing I'd suggest is maybe a thin white border on the 75 so that it jumps out a bit more, or even making the 75 bigger as the flags speak for themselves.

Looking forward to this campaign and have probably narrowed my choice down to either one of the types of Japanese aircraft (?!) or a US Cruiser (as my first ever attempt at a small scale warship.)

I like the ribbon design too. I second Paul's idea of making the 75 larger as well. Looking forward to a great campaign.

Judging form the map you posted Dave...it looks like the Carrier Task Force is hitting the half way mark by today...75 years ago! I pretty much have everything in place waiting...looking for a piece of something for a base now!

Just an idea, how about the US flag oriented horizontally halfway in the frame (in perspective) with half of the rising sun flag on the upper portion? You could overlay a silhouette of the Arizona BB in the center of the Japanese flag(or 75). Arrange text the way you see fit..just my 2 cents..

P.S. It's not that I'm really hung up on the BB Arizona, but when I think of the date, I mind goes to Battleship Row, and the 'Zona loss..
