I'm building the Trumpeter 1/144 LCM3 and would like to finish it as one serving in the Pacific. Trumpeter give you decals but no colour guide or decal placement.

What I'm looking for is a colour guide and numbers for a camouflaged boat if any existed to go along with my LSM.

Any help appreciated.

Hi

I checked my references of the LCM (3) and found no camouflaged photos.

The overall color was 5-O Ocean Gray with some having black below the waterline.

US markings where placed at the front of the craft.

I do remember seeing some British cameo landing craft but were alludes me.

Thanks Harry I thought as much, my search for photos on the net didn't turn up any although I did find a grey one with no markings but that may have been the censor at work.

Squadron’s WWII US Landing Craft in action # 17 has several photos for decal placement.

Hello Luciano,

The color scheme of the individual craft would depend on the ship it was assigned to. The LCM-3 would be considered "deck cargo" for either a transport or attack transport, and so you would need to find out the measure of the "mother" ship in order to determine which color to use on the individual craft.

For example. If the ship it's assigned to was painted in Measure 21 (overall Navy Blue), then the LCM's assigned to it would be also painted Navy Blue. However, if the ship was painted in Measure 22 (graded with Ocean Grey at the cargo deck level), then the LCM's would be in Ocean Grey. So, it's a modelers choice depending on the ship it's assigned to.

Thanks Jon, so now the search for a camo'd transport with LCM(3)'s as deck cargo and find the LCM's number.

Oh timed that just right as I was about to put down a coat of primer.
