DKM Prinz Eugen
|
I had to rebuild bridge and hangar parts of superstructure, masts are created using brass tubes and syringe needles of various diameters. I used doll's hair as a material for rigging.
My first experience with photo etched details was using of WEM detail parts for my 1/400 HMS Hood project and I was very satisfied with quality, so I decided to use WEM set for Prinz Eugen too.
Set is excellent, but I did not contain all portholes and window covers which were necessary to complete my project, so I also had to buy the set WEM Kriegsmarine Portholes, Doors & Hatches.
I tried to display ship in status from beginning of the year 1945. As a reference I tried to follow the webpage www.prinzeugen.com and www.admiral-hipper-class.dk which provided me extensive set of information about various configurations of the ship during her service and camouflage schemes. Ship was painted using Humbrol and Vallejo Model color paints. I'm quite satisfied with a result, even if there is a lot of room for improvement. Most errors I realized when it was too late for me to correct them, but I take it as a challenge to make it better in my next ships project.
