I suspect that most of you are aware of SKP Model because of the excellent line of lenses and taillights; however SKP Model has more than one string to their bow. They also offer a nice line in replacement resin wheels for a number of vehicles.
These 5 resin wheels for the Bronco Models Jeep kits or as Bronco Models titles it the ‘GPW 1/4 ton truck’ are packaged in a Ziploc bag which is packaged in a tray type cardboard box with a CAD image of the wheels on the top.
This new wheel set from SKP Model is one of two sets they have released for the Bronco Models ‘GPW 1/4 ton truck’. They are designed as instant replacements for the kit supplied wheels with no scratch work required to make them fit. The set are not identical in that the Spare wheel, front and rear wheels have different hub detail.
I am sure that some of you are asking “why do I need replacement wheels for the Bronco Models kits?” Well the truth is you don’t have to change them unless you want a different tread pattern on the wheels. The tread pattern on the wheels in this set is referred to as a road tread pattern; the tread pattern on all of the wheels supplied in the Bronco Models kits so far have all been a cross country pattern, at least that is the case with the first 2 offerings and I believe the 3rd offering due soon.
These wheels being resin as opposed to injection moulded plastic have the edge when it comes to the crispness of the imparted detail and it has allowed the very fine tread pattern to be replicated. I do not know exactly when these tyres with this tread pattern was used but they could be used to add an interesting mix from 4 identical tyres on a vehicle. The stud pattern on the wheels appears accurate to me as are the wheels supplied with the kit, but as I said they do have the slight edge of crisper detail. The only down side I can see with this offering is that the clean up from removing the pour plugs will take time and great care.
While the wheels supplied with the Bronco Models kits are perfectly acceptable it is nice to have the option of an alternate tread pattern. The stud bolts and centre wheel detail is marginally crisper than can currently be achieved with injection moulded plastic. This product is well worth your consideration if resin wheels are your media of choice.
Highs: An alternate tread pattern allows for some mixing in your wheels.Lows: Clean up after removal of the pour plugs will require great care to avoid damaging the tread pattern.Verdict: Recommended for those who prefer resin wheels or would like an alternate tread pattern.
