History

The Surcouf was commissioned in May 1934, Surcouf was the largest submarine built until it was surpassed by the IJN Type 400's. Designed as an "underwater cruiser. Armed with eight 550mm and twin 203mm/50 and four 400mm torpedo tubes and the Besson MB.411 reconnaissance float plane. The Surcouf was rammed by the SS Thompson Lykes and sank in the Caribbean on the night of February 18, 1942.

French Submarine Surcouf

French Submarine Surcouf Model No. 83522

The kit consists of three spruces: two gray(35 parts), one clear(12 parts) for the aircraft and navigation lights and one photo etch fret with railing's and ladder; although to my surprise no photo etch props?

This is a very nice kit for someone who has not built many kits and it will go together very fast and a simple assembly. A great kit to super detail with brass barrels and some additional photo etch. The decals are nicely printed.

I was planning on building this kit myself, until our new Beagle puppy got hold of the hull.
SUMMARY
Highs: ease of assembly, low parts count.
Lows: No PE for the Props
Verdict: A nice kit with no flash or sink marks

This kit looks to be a big upgrade from the only other plastic Surcouf available up to now, the Heller 1/400 kit from the 1960s. I do wish manufacturers would stop the annoying practice of molding the airplane parts in clear plastic, though!
