IntroductionNOCH's vignette BATHING LAKE is a model in their NATUR Plus brand of highly detailed scenery items. It is item 07442.
Bathing LakeAround these parts a NOCH Bathing Lake would be called an "old swimming hole" or pond. The product is a flexible sheet of Natur Plus Meadows with a body of synthetic water mounted in it. The water seems to be a semi-flexible silicon molded to show ripples or low waves, depending on scale. NOCH includes 10 tuffs of flowers to plant around the vignette.
Two types of static grass grows around the lake, taller browner grass along the edges and a shorter green type leading the the pond.
The water is glued to the underside of the grass sheet. It is molded in blue like it is reflecting the sky, and it has nice rippling and waves. Whereas the grassy part of the sheet is flexible like cloth, the area around the water is not. The material the water is cast in is also thicker than the grass backing. Thus the lake is slightly higher than the surrounding area. I do not find this noticeable and it also is common with catch basin ponds that I have lived around. And if this topography troubles one, it is no problem to put something under the grassy portion to elevate it above the lake. The flexibility of the sheet makes it easy to make a hill nearby.
ScaleThe sheet is 8 2/3 inches (220 mm) long and 7 7/8 inches (200 mm) wide. That is a plat 63 feet by 56 feet in HO. In N scale it measures 115 by 105. For 1/48-O scale it is 34 ft X 31 ft.
I used N scale swimmers by NOCH to populate the scene.
ConclusionBathing Lake is a good scenery sheet that allows modelers a quick and good looking swimming hole or pond. The flexible sheet allows making higher ground. The static grass looks very realistic. The water does, too. I apprentice that NOCH includes 10 tuffs to extenuate the scene.
That the water is slightly higher than the grass sheet is not much of a concern as explained above.
I am pleased with this product and look forward to incorporating it into a diorama or layout. Recommended.
