The folks at Osprey Publishing have announced the release of their latest book - USN Cruiser vs IJN Cruiser Guadalcanal 1942.
Written by Mark Stille this book tells the story of the thrilling duel of the cruiser clashes during the battles for Guadacanal , highlighting the Battle of Savo Island and the Battle of Cape Esperance. The first clash was a Japanese victory that resulted in the loss of four Allied cruisers. However, in the latter, the Americans managed to turn the tables despite the battle being fought throughout the night.
This book totaling 80 pages presents a view of the design and development of the opposing weapons systems, illustrated with newly commissioned digital artwork and it uses firsthand accounts to really bring the battles to life and explain why the Americans suffered early on, but eventually had their revenge.
Illustrated by Howard Gerrard and Paul Wright this promises to be a fine addition to any modelshipwrights reference library.
It is expected to be available in October 2009 and it has a current retail price UK pounds 12.99.
Three month pre-orders are being accepted at present.
