Leyte Gulf
Leyte Gulf Campaign Award

Operational Overview
This campaign honors the greatest naval battle since the Battle of Jutland and the last time battleships engaged one another on the open seas. The battle of Leyte Gulf, or as it was know, the second battle of the Philippine Sea, was actually several smaller battles. There was the Battle of Surigao Strait, the last time battleships squared off with one another. Then there was the Battle off Samar when the escorts of Taffy 3 gallantly charged an overwhelming force to protect the American escort carriers. And the controversial Battle off Cape Engano, Halsey’s charge to destroy the last of the Imperial Japanese Navy’s carriers. From flattops to PTs, destroyers to battleship hybrids, landing craft to submarines, the world would never again see a sea battle like the one in Leyte Gulf.

This campaign gives us an opprotunity to build survivors of Pearl Harbor, state of the art Essex class carriers, PT Boats, Japanese hybrids and super battleships. Working together, helping with research, tips and techniques is what it's all about.

The Rules and Regs
1. Any naval vessel that was present at the Battle of Leyte Gulf, from any nation. This includes surface combatants, submarines, landing craft and auxilleries. All scales are accepted.

2. Your entry can stand alone, be sea or in a diorama with other vessels, as long as they are all ships that took part in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Please be mindful of US naval camouflage measures at the time.

3. All skill levels are encouraged to participate, and may range from out of the box to total scratch builds.

4. At least one build must be completed by the end date of this campaign (multiple builds are encouraged).

5. In-progress photo's are highly encouraged (what better way is there to experience each others builds!).

6. The most important rule of all, HAVE FUN!

Contest Element
This is a wonderful chance to build something you’ve never built before or, haven’t had a chance to build yet. The amazing amount of history involved with this battle lends itself for the builder to use the awesome network of modelers we have at Model Shipwrights and the vast amount of research material they have at their disposal. Good luck and good modeling!
